Plato showed that the one should only imitate the ideal. He gave an important model for the discussion in art and firm base of the western idea of art’s purpose in imitating nature. The artworks should be prohibited in the society pictured by Plato because he believed that they mislead and prevent us in discovering the truth. He said that the order of the universe is based on mathematical principles and logical thinking. Plato thought that finding meaning is solely the job a philosopher. All in all, he certainly did not believe that an artist has the capacity to understand great ideas.
Beauty is an Idea
With a common element of thinking that are directly related to art and aesthetics, both Plato and Aristotle have introduced important contents of form and content, most remarkably on the field of imitation (mimesis). However, Plato’s concept of imitation is mostly concerned with ideas that rule the cosmos. These are shown in the order, synchronization and stability of the natural world.
